Freedom Series: Worldly Priorities

Today’s post is on Freedom from Worldly Priorities. The reason I chose this freedom is because I needed a reminder about what is really important, here. I wanted to study it out and share, because I believe this is the type of freedom that can benefit us all – no matter what we do in our lives.

Freedom Series: Sin and Death

When I started thinking about this series, one of the freedoms that stood out to me first was the Freedom from Sin and Death. (If you missed yesterday’s post on Freedom from Burden, be sure to check it out, here…) Prior to becoming a Disciple, I had a general idea of what that meant. But, after studying more and digging deeper into the Bible, I realized I knew very little. And, I definitely was not thanking God enough for the amazing gift He gave to us…

Beginning in Sunday School, we are taught about Heaven, and the wonderful place it is. We are taught that Jesus came to earth, lived a perfect life, was crucified, and died for our sins. Then, he rose from the dead and now is with his Father, God, in Heaven. And, if we believe in Him, we can go there, too.

If you asked a random person on the street, I’d bet you’d get a similar recant of the information, without a lot of differences.

But, just because we know what happened doesn’t mean we know what it really means to us.

Freedom Series: Burdens

As it is Independence Day tomorrow, I have decided to spend the next few days on the freedoms that have been given to us from God. Follow along throughout the week. God Provides

Recently Brad took a trip of solitude. It is something that he has wanted to do for quite some time. I was all for it. It would provide a time for him to truly unplug and quiet his mind. He is an extremely hard-working man who pours himself wholly into everything he does.

While he was gathering all of his supplies for his two-night camping trip along the Mississippi River, I asked about food. He looked at me and pretty much laughed.

Family of God

I have been searching for a church family for a very long time. Growing up, we would usually sing a Gaither song, The Family of God, to close our church service.

I’m so glad I’m a part of the Family of God,
I’ve been washed in the fountain, cleansed by His blood!
Joint heirs with Jesus as we travel this sod,
For I’m part of the family,
The Family of God.

When I was younger, I never really thought about what the lyrics meant. I just knew that the opening chords to that song were my cue to start gathering all my things from the pew…
