Freedom

Over the past five days, I wrote a series of posts on Freedom.  It seemed pretty appropriate as the United States was celebrating its Independence Day.  And, as I was going over all of the Freedoms given to us from God, I was struck at how much there is for us to be thankful for.

As a recap, I thought I would go back and share a quick summary of each post and the verses that have stayed with me throughout the week.  Be sure to click on the links after the verses to read the entire post!

Freedom from Burdens

Freedom

There are so many things in our lives that can be difficult to carry.  When those get to be too much for us to handle, God promises to help us out.  All we need to do is ask.

The passage that I have gone back to the most from this post is

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.                    Matthew 11:28-29 NIV

Freedom from Sin and Death

Freedom

One of the greatest freedoms God has given us is freedom from Sin and Death.  And, I am so grateful for it.  To help us follow the correct path and turn away from our sinful nature, God gave us the Holy Spirit to help us and guide us.

For the power of the life-giving Spirit – and this power is mine though Christ Jesus – has freed me from the vicious circle of sin and death.                 Romans 8:2

but the free gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.                         Romans 6:23

Freedom from Worldly Priorities

Freedom

This has definitely been an area in which I have struggled throughout my lifetime.  It seems like I was always trying to prove my worth to those around me, and was certainly not concerned about God’s plan for me.

I will still pause from time-to-time to check out my priorities and make sure I am in-line with what God wants me to do.  I try my best to follow these two verses…

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.                           Romans 12:2

In everything you do, put God first, and He will direct you and crown your efforts with success.               Proverbs 3:6

Freedom from Guilt and Shame

Freedom

Every time I think about this freedom, I am reminded of how loving and gracious God is.  He has known we would sin and fail pretty much from the beginning.  And, yet, He won’t hold it against us if we confess and repent.

By following his instructions and having faith in His promises, we can release ourselves from the pain of Guilt and Shame.

All day and night Your hand was heavy on me.  My strength evaporated like water on a sunny day until I finally admitted all my sins to You and stopped trying to hide them.  I said to myself, “I will confess them to the Lord.” And You forgave me! All my guilt is gone.                  Psalm 32:4-5

Freedom from Worry and Fear

Freedom

Worry and Fear have been a part of my life far too many times.  Until my recent trip to the doctor, I hadn’t found a way to Let Go and Let God.  Through studying out God’s promises and how we can turn over our Worry and Fear to Him, I found a calm I had never known existed.

Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.                   1 Peter 5:7

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.                Philippians 4:6
